LMFT Specializing in Reunification & Couples Therapy

My Personal Journey

For over a decade, I have dedicated my career to helping families heal, reconnect, and rebuild trust through reunification therapy. But my passion for this work isn’t just professional, it’s deeply personal.

I understand the pain of parental alienation and estrangement because I’ve lived it. My own journey with reunification was filled with roadblocks, not because I didn’t want my daughter’s father involved, but because co-parenting in the midst of hurt and trauma can feel impossible. Despite my efforts to create a healthy balance, my daughter became stuck between two worlds, two different parenting approaches, two conflicting influences, leaving her caught in emotional turmoil. I searched for services to help, only to find that reunification support was scarce, misunderstood, or inaccessible. That painful experience ignited my mission to fill the gap and ensure no other family feels as lost and unsupported as I once did.

Reunification isn’t about choosing sides, it’s about choosing love. It’s about recognizing that a child’s well-being should never be a battleground but a shared responsibility. Parenting with love, fairness, and unity is the key to breaking generational cycles of conflict and division. My work is centered on helping families navigate these challenges, providing a space where children can thrive rather than be torn between opposing forces.

"A Thoughtful Blend of Therapy Approaches for Your Growth"

As the founder of The Couples Therapy and Reunification Counseling, I specialize in attachment-based therapy, EFT, EMDR, Gottman Theory, trauma-informed care, and high-conflict family dynamics along with other Evidence Based Approaches, collaborating with courts, attorneys, and families to create solutions that prioritize the child’s best interests. I am also an author, currently publishing a book, "The Power of Reunification Therapy: Healing from Attachment Trauma, Parental Alienation, and Estrangement", which explores the emotional and psychological impact of divided parenting and the necessity of reunification.

"Educational Foundations That Shape My Practice"

I hold a degree from UC Santa Barbara and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Mount Saint Mary’s University. Fluent in both English and Spanish, I am committed to making reunification therapy accessible to diverse communities.

My work is not just a profession, it’s a calling. I am here to help families find healing, to help children feel safe in their relationships, and to remind parents that love, not division, is the foundation of a child’s future.

If you are struggling with parental alienation, high-conflict co-parenting, or need guidance in reunification, you are not alone. I invite you to reach out and begin the journey toward healing and connection.

Parenting with love, fairness, and unity is the key to breaking generational cycles of conflict and division.

Decades of Insight, Compassion, and Care!

She is the Owner and Founder of The Couples Therapy and Reunification Counseling, a private practice operating in Montebello and Newport Beach, California. She has served this community for over 10 years, providing therapy services with a focus on high-conflict families, reunification cases, and trauma-informed care.

She began her clinical career at Pacific Clinics in 2016 as a trainee, where she received extensive foundational training in child and family therapy and began accumulating the 3,000 supervised hours required for licensure. She later worked at Molina Pathways, a crisis intervention center and Full-Service Partnership (FSP) program, where she gained hands-on experience in crisis response, trauma-informed intervention, and county-level systems of care. Her work at FSP enriched her clinical knowledge of serious mental health presentations and further equipped her to support vulnerable populations through individualized, culturally responsive treatment.

In addition to surpassing the BBS requirement of 3,000 supervised hours, she has completed advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other trauma-informed modalities. She maintains an eclectic and integrative approach tailored to the needs of each family, grounded in attachment theory, systemic frameworks, and best practices in the field. As a licensed clinician, she also meets the ongoing California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirement to complete Continuing Education Units (CEUs) each renewal cycle, ensuring her practice remains compliant and clinically up to date.

Her reunification methods are informed by years of clinical practice, direct work with high-conflict families, and continuous case consultation with multidisciplinary professionals and coaches. She is currently developing a book and accompanying workbook to contribute to research and clinical training in the area of reunification.

She is also well-versed in the topic of Parental Alienation (PA), having studied the works of leading experts such as Dr. Craig Childress and scholars who contributed to the development of the Parental Acceptance–Rejection Questionnaire (PARQ). While PA is not recognized in the DSM-5 as a formal diagnosis, she is familiar with the research discourse and clinical instruments used to assess it, and she incorporates this knowledge into her reunification evaluations and treatment planning.

With more than a decade of direct experience, comprehensive training, and a deep understanding of family dynamics, she considers herself a specialist in reunification therapy, parental alienation, and court-involved family systems.

Working with Maria Jessica Quiroz is more than just therapy, it’s a journey of healing, reconnection, and hope. She creates a safe, structured, and compassionate space where families rediscover trust, rebuild relationships, and break the cycles of alienation and estrangement.

When She’s Not in Session…

Outside of work I’m someone who deeply values connection movement and faith. I find energy and clarity through workouts like Barry’s and Grit Cycle. Pushing myself physically helps me feel strong and focused in every other area of my life.

But nothing compares to the joy I feel when I’m with my beautiful daughter and my husband. We’ve been married for five years and together with our sweet dog we’ve built a home filled with love laughter and support.

I’m passionate about personal growth and the journey of helping others heal. Cooking is my creative outlet. There’s something special about preparing a meal with love. If I had more time I’d be out in the garden with my hands in the soil soaking in the quiet.

My faith in God is the foundation of everything I do. It keeps me grounded fuels my purpose and reminds me daily of why I do this work. I believe in showing up with heart leading with intention and being true to who I am always.
