Discernment Therapy

Considering Divorce? Therapy for Couples Who Are Not Sure

If one of you is unsure about staying together and the other wants to keep trying, discernment counseling can help.

This is a short-term service that helps you slow down, get clear, and decide what to do next.

What is discernment counseling?

Discernment counseling is a guided conversation for couples who feel stuck. It is not about fixing everything right away. It is about helping you understand what is happening and choose your next step with more peace and less pressure.

Who this is for?

  • One of you is thinking about separation or divorce

  • You feel disconnected and keep having the same fights

  • One of you wants therapy, and the other is unsure

  • You do not want to make a rushed decision

How it works?

Most couples meet for one to five sessions.

What do we do in each session?

  • Meet together for part of the time

  • Meet with each partner one-on-one during the same appointment

  • Create clear next steps

This structure helps reduce arguing and helps you both feel heard.

What will you decide?

By the end, most couples choose one of these options

  • Stay the same for now, with a clear plan

  • Separate or divorce in a calmer, more respectful way

  • Commit to couples therapy with clear goals

What you can expect?

  • A calm and neutral therapist

  • A safe space to talk without pushing an outcome

  • Help understanding your patterns and what led you here

  • Support making a decision you can feel confident about

You do not have to decide today. If your relationship is at a turning point, we can help you get clear on what comes next.
