When Anger Starts to Take Over

You might notice:

  • Reacting quickly and saying things you later regret

  • Feeling overwhelmed or “flooded” in moments of conflict

  • Shutting down, walking away, or avoiding conversations

  • Raising your voice, becoming defensive, or escalating arguments

  • Feeling intense frustration that builds and then explodes

  • Struggling to communicate your needs calmly

  • Experiencing tension in your body, jaw, chest, or breathing

Afterward, there may be guilt…
or confusion about why it got that intense.

You’re not “just angry.”
Something deeper is happening underneath.

What Anger Is Really Telling You

Anger is often a protective emotion.

Underneath it, there may be:

  • Hurt that hasn’t been processed

  • Fear of rejection or abandonment

  • Feeling disrespected or unseen

  • Past experiences or unresolved trauma

  • A nervous system that becomes easily activated

If we only focus on “stopping the anger,” we miss the root.

That’s where real change happens.
