Child-Centered Reunification Therapy in Montebello, Newport Beach, CA & Telehealth
Little steps.
Big love.
A path back to each other.
The Quiroz Bridge Method is a 7-step, therapist-guided reunification therapy that helps children and parents reconnect safely after separation or conflict, one small, steady step at a time. Never rushed. Never forced. Always led by the child.
What is the Quiroz Bridge Method?
The Quiroz Bridge Method is a therapist-guided reunification therapy that helps children and parents rebuild trust after time apart, conflict, or estrangement. It was developed by Maria Jessica Quiroz, LMFT, after years of clinical work with families going through separation, high-conflict co-parenting, and California's family court system.
Too often, kids are asked to heal in ways that feel too fast, too grown-up, and too overwhelming. This method does the opposite: it moves at your child's pace, not a courtroom's calendar, so reconnection happens through safety and trust, not pressure.
Healing happens when children feel protected, not rushed. That's the whole idea behind the bridge. Child-centered reunification therapy sessions are available in-office in Newport Beach and Montebello, or by telehealth anywhere in California.
What makes it different
Guided entirely by your child's emotional readiness, never a fixed timeline
Built on play, art, and gentle connection — not heavy conversation
Grounded in attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and child development research
Designed to give attorneys and courts a clear, documented framework for progress
Big feelings need a soft landing
When kids have been through conflict or time apart, their little bodies can slip into "worry mode" — even when part of them wants to reconnect. Pushing too far, too fast can make a child shut down or pull away completely.
So we don't start with a visit. We start by helping your child feel calm and safe in their own body first. Once they feel safe, connection has room to grow on its own.
A little more, for the curious parent
Kids who resist contact usually aren't being defiant — their nervous system is trying to protect them. We watch for cues like tension, withdrawal, or big emotional swings, and we let those cues (not a calendar) set the pace for each phase below.
The goal isn't just one good visit. It's a child who can stay calm during connection, recover afterward, and carry that sense of safety forward.

The 7 Steps of the Quiroz Bridge Method
Each step builds gently on the last. We only move forward when your child is ready.
Phase 0 · Getting Grounded
Building safety first
Before any contact happens, your child builds trust with their therapist and learns that this space feels calm and safe, the foundation everything else is built on.
Step 1 · Letters
Gentle written words
Parents write warm, reassuring letters, no pressure to respond. It's a soft first hello your child can take in at their own pace.
Step 2 · Texting
Short, predictable check-ins
Simple, friendly messages help your child's nervous system start to link contact with safety instead of stress.
Step 3 · Phone Calls
Hearing a familiar voice
Brief, therapist-guided calls reintroduce voice and presence, with calming check-ins before and after.
Step 4 · Video Visits
Seeing each other's faces
Structured video sessions add a visual connection while a therapist stays close, watching and supporting the whole time.
Step 5 · In-Person Visits
Together in the same room
A big milestone…real, face-to-face time, carefully paced and supported to keep it feeling safe and positive.
Step 6 · More Time Together
Growing the relationship
As comfort builds, visits gradually lengthen and happen more often, always led by your child's readiness.
Step 7 · Ready to Fly
Carrying it forward, together
Once the relationship feels stable outside of sessions, we help the family transition off therapy, with tools to keep the connection strong.
Healing that still feels like childhood
Kids communicate through play, art, and imagination, not heavy conversation. So that's how our child therapists meet them.
Play Therapy
Exploring feelings and building coping skills through the language kids know best: play.
Art Therapy
Creative expression when feelings are too big or too hard to put into words.
Attachment & Family Work
Rebuilding the parent-child bond and restoring day-to-day trust within the family.
Whole-Family Support
Because kids don't exist in isolation, we work with the whole family system to repair trust.
Gentle EMDR
A kid-friendly way to process hard experiences and ease anxiety, adapted for young minds.
Real, lasting reconnection without the setbacks
Over years of working this way with court-involved families, we've consistently seen:
Less anxiety and emotional shutdown in kids
More willingness to engage and stay connected
Steadier, more sustainable reunification over time

-
There's no fixed timeline. Because each phase only advances once your child shows emotional readiness, treatment length varies by family and depends on their nervous system regulation and progress.
-
Yes. The method's structured, phase-based framework gives attorneys and courts a clear, documented way to track therapeutic progress in court-ordered reunification cases.

That's expected and planned for. Children who resist contact are often in a stress response, not being defiant. Phase 0 focuses entirely on helping your child feel safe with their therapist before any parent contact begins.
